What follows is the result of an effort that took about thirty-five years to complete and is dedicated to my three children: Dimitris, Sofia and Aristoteles.
On 9/11/1976 I arrived to the USA in order to pursue a musical career. The first contact with the
Conservatory (what a name !) Of Music I realized that tradition holds onto a whole lot of false and
empty of substance information passes on a faulty concept about the way the sound impresses the human thinking machine.
How our brain processes "musical" information...
Refusing to go along with the school's ignorant curriculum I decided without guilt to pursue my trip towards
musical understanding on my own. Always working in various night clubs all over America and getting tired of
changing addresses and phone numbers I moved to Los Angeles and soon I took over a music store
which I still operate today, twenty-one years later.
So ___ Music Center turned into "Marina Music."
The first striking experience was to find out that 90-95% of the players lacked any formal training
in music and always played "by ear;" exchanging 'licks' in their garages in their 'bands'.
Try to talk to a 'musician' about theory and almost all run to hide...
The few braves ones get offended rather fast and seek refuge in discussions about
"Indian" microtonal musical concepts ...
What gives?
(In my opinion always !) the human society is in its embryonic state when it comes to musical understanding.
The obvious sign of this is the fact that we still 'play' music instead of taking a more serious
attitude towards the evenly divided by (12) twelve sound spectrum.
